The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has provided a list of
'Genomic
Competencies' for public health professionals in the laboratory
sciences.
Some of the genomic competencies for laboratorians include:
-
Establish basic analytical and quality assurance performance criteria for
genetic tests. For an update on how Michigan's laboratories are meeting
this goal, please read more about the Quality Assurance Section by clicking
here
.
-
Communicate genetic test limitations, complexities, implications and relevant
information from laboratory data. One source, published by the MDCH
Bureau of Laboratories, is the LabLink Newsletter (click
here
to view), a tool used to update Michigan's laboratory community.
-
Advocate laboratory participation in genomic policy and regulatory development.
The
Laboratory Improvement Section also helps Michigan laboratories in the
licensing and certifying process.
