November 5, 2010: "Hereditary Cancer Syndromes: The Basics Every Provider Should Know"  This educational conference for providers will be held on Friday, November 5th, 2010 in Lansing, MI.

Mission: The Michigan Cancer Genetics Alliance (MCGA) is a statewide collaborative network that provides leadership, education and advocacy to promote the  translation of cancer research into clinical and public health practice.

Vision:  The MCGA strives to influence appropriate application of genomics to improve cancer detection, prevention and treatment throughout Michigan.

Membership:  MCGA is open to individuals and organizations with an interest and/or expertise in cancer genetics, agree with the MCGA mission, and are willing to assist in moving the agenda forward toward our common vision.

  • Privileges of membership:  MCGA is an organization with representation on the Michigan Cancer Consortium (MCC).  All members have voting privileges on MCGA issues.  MCGA members with expertise (in genetics, epidemiology, and/or oncology) are eligible for MCGA leadership roles.
  • Benefits of membership:  No membership fees, MCGA listserv, MCGA and MCC newsletters, MCGA directory, MCGA website, MCGA membership meetings, Media/Press Releases, possibilities of CEUs, networking opportunities.
  • Responsibilities of membership:  Participation (defined as attendance at a minimum of one membership meeting per year OR one conference call of a MCGA workgroup).  Time is the most valuable contribution that members can make to MCGA.  MCGA values your time and commitment as a member.

 

In collaboration with the Michigan Department of Community Health and the Michigan Public Health Institute, the goals of the MCGA include:

  • Development of a Speakers Bureau to provide educational presentations for healthcare providers and the public
  • Assistance with the integration of cancer genetics goals in the state Genetics and Cancer Control Plans
  • Evaluation of issues related to quality assurance in genetic testing for Michigan
