Adult Genetics & Chronic Disease
Many Michigan families are affected by adult-onset genetic disorders (genetic disorders that appear in adulthood) or other chronic diseases. A chronic disease is a disease that lasts a long time or recurs often. Chronic diseases account for the leading causes of death to Michigan residents.

Some conditions have a known pattern of inheritance or a common gene that gets passed from generation to generation.
There are other conditions where there is no clear pattern but a person's risk may be higher due to their family history.
